I loved Pyre for the story and music (the credits song was incredible because it had a “bonus” I don’t want to spoil), I am a big Greek mythology fan and I love old style roguelikes (ADOM, ToME etc.) as well as roguelites. It still took me years to play Hades, though, because I thought its focus on real time combat would be too rough for me (I have BAD eyes and freeze up under stress).
I was finally persuaded to try it and I’m glad I did! I don’t like everything about the story, but the characters, music and even the gameplay are amazing. I played in god mode (thank you devs!) but learned to beat the game without dying many times. I’ve not picked up Hades 2 yet, but suspect I will when it gets closer to release.
Given this one episode, I would have loved to hear a longer Spoiler Warning series on Hades (don’t get me wrong, experiencing Starfield with you all is comedy gold but it just feels like such a waste of game dev resources). Maybe you could do one for Hades 2?
Finally, I adore the fact that there are fics about Greek myth on AO3 – read one about Hades and Persephone just today (not based on Hades-the-Game either). Some of the original stories are pretty wild, too, and ancient AO3 would’ve been something else for sure.
