I think it’s Jim Rossignol who made Sir, etc. and Signal from Sömewhere-ör-Öther. Co-founder of Rock, Paper, Shotgun but not involved with them anymore.
Yep, I realized my mistake as I was editing.
My gaming restriction is what I call mediumcore. Hardcore is permadeath, etc. In Diablo and similar games, I play on regular, softcore. But when I die, I drop all my items into the stash, delete my character, and start a new one of the same class. Sometimes the same name. It usually takes two or three days of solid playing to get back up to max level again.
I have no idea when I started playing this way, and wish I could break the habit. It’s annoying and time consuming.
Josh’s experience with game-replay seems to be a somewhat common sentiment; Namely:
– replaying sections again, especially recently-played ones, is tiresome
– desire to see most, if not all of the game’s content
I think what’s needed is a better UI over top of game saves. Most games if they have player-controlled saves, just present a big list, which is a pain to manage. A better system would be essentially auto-saves, visualized as a map of the game’s major story beats. Basically, a map showing all the branches (or re-connections) you’ve taken to get where you are right now, something like this. I think I’ve seen something like this used in one of the Metal Slug games, although only to visualize your path taken, since a money-eating arcade machine naturally doesn’t have save-games. 🙂
I agree with you there. I hate the games that don’t even let you name your saves. That used to be a big thing in a lot of RPGs which allowed you to manage and know wth a given save actually WAS. It drives me insane that I have to come up with my own systems or memorize different ideas in order to insure I can actually go to different saves. Then again, I usually get so frustrated or take a break and forget to the point where it’s easier just to start a new game.
You know, Fashion Souls is actually a real thing.
