Star Butts S1E1: The Man Trap

This isn’t apropos of anything, but your editing or mic-muting is so good, during those moments of silence the Google Chrome tab stops showing the audio icon. I kept having to check and make sure the video hadn’t crashed or something!
Anyway, everything bad that happens in this episode is all Professor Crater’s fault. If he had only come clean about why he needed the salt, maybe Starfleet could have accommodated the creature’s needs without anyone having to die. The guy’s a Federation scientist, and even if he’s in a warped state of mind after losing his wife to this creature, he still seemed to care about it enough to be willing to overlook murder. He can’t tell his superiors, “hey, I have a new and probably intelligent lifeform here, but it needs salt to survive”?
What I can’t get over is how stupid the creature themself was acting – it doesn’t exactly take a rocket scientist to figure out that it would be much easier to convince the Enterprise to accommodate eccentric supply requests without a bunch of mysterious deaths happening all over the place, and the scene with the last salt jar shows that there was still enough salt left that the creature should have been in full control of their mental faculties.
“… So what were you thinking about the Buffalo?”
“That they were delicious. Anyone want sucker-creature for lunch? One time offer!”
